On March 4th, MDC Data Centers hosted a unique gathering in El Paso, bringing together networks from across the U.S. and Mexico for an exclusive Peering Forum with Meta.

Customers traveled from Mexico City, Monterrey, and across the region to join us at the historic Plaza Pioneer Hotel—setting the stage for a day built around collaboration, learning, and connection.

The morning began with a relaxed breakfast, where conversations started early and naturally. From there, the forum opened with MDC sharing the vision behind our interconnection platform and the role of MEX-IX in enabling efficient, scalable peering across the border.

As the only carrier-neutral data center in El Paso, MDC has built the most dense ecosystem of Mexican networks in the U.S., creating a natural meeting point for cross-border traffic. Over time, this has evolved into more than infrastructure—it has become a platform where networks, content, and users converge.

MEX-IX is a key part of that evolution. As adoption continues to grow, it is enabling networks to exchange traffic locally, reduce latency, and unlock new efficiencies in how content is delivered across the region.

Meta then took the stage.

Three of their experts in Edge Data Centers and interconnection led a deep dive into how Meta approaches peering—both through direct interconnection and via IX platforms like MEX-IX. The session focused on practical strategies to optimize traffic exchange and improve end-user experience across platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.

What followed was one of the most valuable parts of the day: an extended, highly interactive Q&A session. For over an hour, customers and Meta exchanged ideas, shared real-world challenges, and explored new opportunities to strengthen their peering strategies.

In the afternoon, the experience moved from discussion to reality.

Attendees visited MDC’s El Paso data center in small groups, where they explored the facility firsthand—from existing deployments to future growth capacity. For many, it was an opportunity to see not just infrastructure, but the operational excellence and scale behind MDC’s interconnection ecosystem.

The addition of Meta into this ecosystem marks an important milestone. With Meta now fully operational at MDC El Paso and connected into MEX-IX, the platform continues to gain momentum—accelerating traffic exchange, increasing route efficiency, and reinforcing El Paso’s role as a key interconnection point for Mexico and beyond.

Moments like this reflect a broader shift: interconnection is no longer just about where networks meet, but how ecosystems are built to scale together.

The day closed with continued conversations over lunch, informal networking, and a few surprises for our guests. More importantly, it closed with something tangible: new connections, stronger relationships, and a clearer path to interconnection.
